On October 19th 2016, Pfizer Austria invited its stakeholders to determine its material topics. 15 persons – partners, employees, media, suppliers etc. – participated in intense, fruitful discussions that lead to new perspectives on those topics where the pharmaceutical company’s highest impact occurs.
Two methods developed by Hauska & Partner were used:
First, the topic map. This network graphic combined Pfizer’s existing materiality analysis with sources like the Sustainable Development goals or codices of the Austrian pharmaceutical industry. As a result, topic map 1.0 was developed, depicting e.g. connections between and hierarchies of terms.
Second, the result oriented stakeholder dialogue. With this method, the participants first determined those topics that were material from their point of view. They exchanged views, gave inputs, and discussed impacts. Following, the stakeholders selected how they wanted to work with Pfizer on their selected material topics; they marked if they wanted to be informed, start a dialogue or be involved.
The inputs collected at this successful event Hauska & Partner combined to the final topic map 2.0:
